The Omo Valley is one of the most culturally rich tribal regions on the African continent. For generations these tribes have been shielded from the modern world in a place that is still raw, natural, and timeless. However, change is happening quickly in this region, which will soon impact their traditional clothing, body painting and way of life.
We have access to the villages of the Arbore, Karo, Hamar, Mursi, and Dassenech. We will have many opportunities to photograph and filming their daily lives, as well as experience some of their timeless ceremonies.
Day 1 : Drive to Arbaminch
Pick up from Bole International airport and drive to Arba Minch in Amharic meaning 40 springs ,admire very interesting views and visit the Oromo, Gurage, Silte people on the way. Overview the rift valley lakes of Abaya and Chamo.
Day 2 : Arba Minch- Jinka
Early morning breakfast and drive to lake Chamo boat excursion to see the
Crocodile Market and the Hippos. (Here crocodiles are some of the longest in Africa , With length of 8 merte and above.) Then drive to Jinka and on the way visit the Konso tribes and their village, Tsemay and Ari tribes.
Day 3: Jinka-Mursi-Jinka- Turmi
Enter Mago National Park to visit the Mursi people and their villages. Here for beauty women insert round clay plates in their lips. The men practice scarification based on the number of enemies or wild animals they have killed in battle. Back to Jinka for lunch. Then drive to Keyafer best market. This time you will have the chance to see the Ari, Benna and Hamer tribes when they exchange goods in the market. Further drive to Turmi which is the home land of the famous Hamer tribes.
Day 4: Turmi-Murule-Turmi
Drive to Murulle to visit the Karo people with their body decorations and skin scarification. Admire the view of the Omo river from Kortcho village. Then back to Turmi afternoon visit the hamer village.
Day 5: Turmi –Arbaminch
Visit the Erbore villages and make a stop to admire the agricultural terracing practices of the Konso. Further visit of the Konso village, Gargesiyo, “ the southern New York”, a place which is the outcome of food for a long period of time and looks like the previous New York sky sculpture buildings in USA.
Day 6: Arbaminch – Addis
Morning after breakfast drive to Addis via the Rift Valley over viewing the rift valley lakes of Shalla, Abyata and Langano, Zeway and Koka admiring wonderful views, endemic birds, pelicans, flamingoes further drive to Addis.
